Our Story
How did we get here?
My grandfather was a huge influence in my life. From an early age he taught me what it was to be a man; compassion, resilience, family and to love unconditionally. Whilst fighting his own battles, he made sure that there was a space for me, a space to express myself through a love of sport and exercise. BM1 was a term that he used to call me, his “Best Mate 1” making sure that I never felt like I was on my own. BM1 Coaching aims to do exactly that. We want to be a presence in others lives, letting them know that you can do whatever you set your mind to. Going into education and becoming a mentor to staff and students alike has become BM1 Coaching. A space where we not only get fitter, stronger and more capable physically but mentally. I know first hand what it means to grow up in the city, to find your feet and figure out your future. With 25years in the education space my heart lies with the youth and giving them, their families, their teachers and their communities the skills they need to grow and become who they were meant to.

Our Mission
The raw truth
Why the numbers matter and what we're doing about it
If we are honest, the stats are staggering and increasing year on year. We can argue that it’s the effects of increased screen time, material deprivation, a lack of community amongst many more. All of these can be sited as valid reasons and what is at our core more than anything else is rebuilding our ability to re-engage with ourselves and those around us. Through our sessions, we target a wide number of social issues including: communication, self confidence, trust and the ever changing world that we live in today. Our young people need us. Their families need us. Their teachers need us. Their communities need us.

What's your lane
Whether you are a caregiver, a school or a corporate organisation there is an option that works.
The family workouts are what we are most proud of. Every Saturday morning in South London, a wonderful community of people from all walks of life come together to socialise and be active. Watching these relationships between family members / carers and the young ones develop through the medium of exercise is incredible. Week on week, members book in and join us for an hourly session in which we work together, compete, learn and more importantly communicate (away from our screens). Studies show that parents who role model positive lifestyle choices/habits regularly, tend to increase the projected life expectancy of their children. We occasionally organise charity runs along the banks of the river Thames which has seen numbers grow exponentially. Developing these positive habits and making them part of our weekly routines helps to strengthen our relationships, improve our mental health and motivate us to be more than we tell ourselves that we can be. In a world of social media, lack of community centres (youth clubs) and too many options on the TV! It is even more important that we don’t forget what it means to be a community.

J Birch (Uplands Primary School)
The year 6 students at Upland loved the Wow workouts at BA. Before the first session some of the students were complaining about having to do fitness but by the end they absolutely loved it and couldn’t wait to come back for the next session. The staff were great with the kids and that gave them a real insight to what secondary school PE could look like. We would love to come back next year and if possible complete more sessions.
C. Cotterill (Parent)
The fitness group has made a huge impact on my daughter, she says it has really upped her game. My daughter has struggled with confidence in the past quite a bit, she has neurodivergence and works very hard at school. Being part of this group is helping her see that there is much more to life than school and is helping her manage her stress and anger. I am so grateful for all he is doing for her.
D Owens-Taylor Rowhill School (SEND school)
Dan has been outstanding in delivering enriching, engaging and fully tailored fitness sessions for our Primary students at Rowhill School, an SEMH provision where individual needs are paramount. His professionalism, passion and inclusive approach created a supportive environment in which every child felt valued, motivated and capable. His session has not only inspired our pupils but has had a remarkable impact on confidence, teamwork and self-belief. Many of our students, who often face significant emotional challenges, now approach physical activity with enthusiasm and pride. Dan ability to connect with our children, adapt to their needs and deliver high-quality, meaningful experiences has truly made a difference. He have enriched our curriculum and have had a lasting positive influence on our school community. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
J. Monjali (Parent)
My daughter, L (age 11), has been attending Coach Dan’s fitness training on a Monday evening since he started it up. Of all the training L goes to on various days, Dan’s fitness is her favourite by far. She has only missed one week, because she was unwell, and even then she still wanted to go!
K Bodenham (Parent)
Coach Dan Fitness has been an incredible support for my child with ADHD/ASD. From the very first session, Coach Dan created an environment that is structured, patient, and highly engaging—exactly what she needs to stay focused and motivated. His ability to break exercises into clear, manageable steps helps her feel confident, and his encouraging approach keeps her fully involved throughout every session. Since starting with Coach Dan, I have seen a remarkable improvement in her overall fitness level. Her strength, stamina, and coordination have all increased, and she now approaches physical activity with excitement instead of hesitation.

A huge thank you to BM1 Coaching for delivering such a brilliant session as part of our wellbeing programme, Thrive YOUR Way. Dan brought a really relaxed, relatable approach that instantly put people at ease and made the sessions feel genuinely accessible, no intimidating fitness culture, just a fun, engaging environment that got people moving, laughing, and involved. The HIIT sessions struck the perfect balance of energetic and inclusive, with lots of positive feedback from teams across the business. Some of the best reactions actually came from a few self-confessed “naysayers” who admitted afterwards they’d expected to hate it… and ended up really enjoying themselves. The wellbeing talk also landed incredibly well, practical, honest, and realistic, with a strong focus on habits, mindset, and sustainable wellbeing rather than quick fixes. A fantastic contribution to the programme and a great example of wellbeing being something people can genuinely enjoy and engage with.

I liked that the session was exercise based and also focussed on personality, habits and bettering yourself. Makes me want to get back into good habits again like the gym.... Great speaker- confident, knowledgeable and patient.

The session was really fun and engaging. The idea of working in pairs sounded scary, but the way it was done- no contact- was great. I liked the self-improvement wellbeing session to.
